The Treatment

The treatment begins with a discussion concerning your medical history, lifestyle and diet choices and what you hope a treatment will achieve. The procedure itself usually lasts 30-40 minutes. During this time warm, filtered water is gently introduced into the colon via the rectum. Gentle abdominal massage is then applied from time to time to encourage the water to soften any stored matter and remove it along with any gas or mucus that can be flushed away. It's important that your modesty and dignity are preserved at all times.
The treatment does not hurt at all in the hands of a skilled therapist. After the treatment is completed, any significant findings will be reported back to you along with pertinent dietary and lifestyle advice.

Sometimes, to aid healing or detoxification, dietary supplements may well be recommended.

How many treatments will be needed?

Colon Hydrotherapists will vary in their answer to this question.
My own view is simple: I never prescribe a set number of treatments and I always wait until the first treatment outcome before discussing with each client their individual needs. Attaining digestive health cannot be achieved overnight because it is equally important to nourish the bowel as it is to cleanse it.

My role as your therapist is to work with you, to offer my experience and skill, but ultimately I aim to support you as you make the journey to health yourself.

Colon Hydrotherapy and holistic care

Like all complimentary therapists, I am interested in the whole you not just the workings of your colon! It is common for clients to be referred from homeopaths, nutritionists, naturopaths and so on. By detoxifying the colon these therapies tend to be much more beneficial. Occasionally I recommend a client seeks the advice of a colleague.

The aim of Colon Hydrotherapy is not only to cleanse the lower digestive tract and to offer advice – by learning about your own colon and digestive needs you will also learn to make choices that enable you to lead a more healthy, happy and fulfilled life. This is an aim that I share with all the colleagues whose services I might recommend.

Preparation for the treatment and after-effects

No special measures are needed prior to treatment although it is sensible to avoid a heavy meal immediately before the colonic. Women can have a treatment if they are menstruating although for your own comfort you may wish to wait until the end of your period.

As well as having a greater sense of cleanliness, many of my clients feel energised, lighter, thinner and amazingly relaxed after a treatment. There is no problem with returning to work immediately after the colonic.
